A dress on white, your photo with the room removed.
A dress on a hanger against a wardrobe door, on a dress form or on a model is separated from its surroundings and delivered on white, on grey or transparent. The dress is the photographed dress: its drape, its length and its folds are not altered.
Where a dress cut-out needs a second look.

Straps, lace and sheer panels
Spaghetti straps, lace trims, tulle overlays and chiffon sleeves are the fine edges of a dress. A thin strap can lose part of its line, and see-through fabric can still carry a tint of the wall that was behind it. View those areas over a dark colour and over a light one before the image goes live.

Drape as it hung
On a hanger a dress falls straight and narrow; on a mannequin or a model it takes a body's shape. The cut-out does not change that: the waist, the fall of the skirt and the hang of the hem come from the photo. When the dress should gain a 3D shape with no hanger or model in view, Ghost mannequin is the tool for it.

The whole length, hem included
Long dresses are often cropped at the calf because the room is too small. A hem outside the frame is missing from the result as well, and a maxi dress then reads as a midi. Step back, or hang the dress higher, until the hem and a strip of space beneath it are in the picture.
Photographing a dress before the cut-out.
- Hang the dress from a slim hanger on a plain door or wall whose colour differs from the fabric, with the zip closed and any belt tied.
- Let the skirt fall freely, spread a full skirt by hand so pleats and panels show, and keep the hem clear of the floor.
- Photograph from mid-dress height, straight on, far enough back that both the straps and the hem are inside the frame.
White background for dresses, answered.
How does lace or tulle on a dress cut out?
Lace, tulle and other see-through fabric are the hardest edges for background removal. Herofab is briefed to hold on to them, and the holes in lace and the transparency of a sheer layer are the places to inspect. Place the transparent PNG over a dark and a light colour to see whether any of the old background remains.
Can I use a photo of the dress on a model?
Yes. An on-model image works as a source, and the model stays in the result with the dress; only the surroundings are taken away. Loose hair lying over the shoulders or the neckline counts as a fine edge and deserves the same check as lace.
Which output suits a dress: white, grey or transparent?
White for a plain main image. Grey when the dress is white or ivory and would merge with a white page. A transparent PNG when the dress will later be set into a banner, a lookbook page or another backdrop. Whichever is chosen can be downloaded in marketplace sizes without cropping.
