A wooden pier, boards, railing and open sea.

A pier gives a garment a clear stage: weathered boards, a railing and the sea behind, with distant hills on the horizon. Herofab places a model wearing the product on a wooden pier from one photo of the garment, and is briefed to keep its cloth, cut and colour.

Worth knowing

What a pier image asks the seller to check.

  1. 1

    Feet on the boards

Planks run in straight lines towards the horizon, and those lines reveal at once whether a figure is standing on them. Look at the feet: each should rest flat on the boards with a shadow touching it, and the gaps between planks should continue behind the legs without bending.

  2. 2

    Light fabric by the water

A pier is where a maxi dress, a loose shirt or wide linen trousers look at home. The garment is briefed to keep its shape and length as photographed, and long, loose cloth is where a drift shows first: compare where the hem ends with the garment itself, see that a skirt hangs as it does on the hanger, and give the length in the listing.

  3. 3

    Shadow direction and the horizon

On a pier nothing blocks the sun, so every shadow points one way. The shade under the chin, in the folds of the garment and on the boards should agree. Note also where the horizon crosses the figure: a line through the neck or the shoulders distracts from a neckline, and another pose is the remedy.

  • Hang the garment at its full length with the hem clear of the floor and inside the frame, because a pier image shows the figure down to the boards.
  • Let loose fabric fall straight: untwist a wrap tie, undo a knotted belt and smooth a pleated or tiered skirt so each layer is visible.
  • Photograph away from coloured curtains or a painted wall, which tint pale cloth before any scene light is applied.
Questions

AI fashion photos on a wooden pier, answered.

What kind of clothing works on a pier?

Pieces that belong near water and have some length or movement: sundresses, linen shirts and trousers, shorts, light knits for the evening, swimwear with a cover-up. Heavy coats and formal tailoring look out of place on bare boards and are better served by a city street.

Can a pier image be made in morning or overcast light?

Yes. The pier can keep the scene's own light, or the light can be set to morning, golden hour or overcast, and the chosen light replaces the scene's own. Golden hour warms whites and blues; an overcast sky leaves them cooler. Whichever is chosen, compare the colour in the image with the garment.

Which aspect ratio suits a pier?

Square, portrait and landscape are all available. Portrait keeps a full-length figure large and shows the boards leading to the feet; landscape gives the water and the sky more room. Marketplace sizes are a separate step: a delivered pier image is downloaded in them without being cropped.
