Sportswear on a model, with its panels in view.

Performance clothing is engineered in pieces: panels, mesh zones, bonded seams, reflective trims. Herofab dresses a studio model in the garment from one photo and is briefed to keep that construction, along with the colours and the logos that identify the range.

Worth knowing

What sportswear carries in its details.

  1. 1

    Panels and colour blocking

Contrast side panels, raglan sleeves, a yoke in another shade: the layout of the pieces is the design. It is read from the photo and briefed to stay. Go through the delivered image block by block, including which colour sits on the left and which on the right.

  2. 2

    Mesh, vents and reflective trims

Ventilation mesh, laser-cut holes and reflective strips are small, and they are the technical argument of the garment. Reflective tape photographs as dull grey in room light, and the image is built from what the photo records. Check that mesh zones kept their texture and were not filled in as solid cloth.

  3. 3

    Logos, numbers and lettering

A chest logo, a sponsor mark, a printed number or a word down the sleeve must be spelt and placed as on the real item. Small lettering and fine logos head the list of checks before publishing. Back prints stay on the back, which is a reason to supply a back photo.

Photographing sportswear for the upload.

  • Lay the garment flat and ease it to its resting shape; stretch fabric that has curled at the edges hides hems, cuffs and the true width.
  • Zip a track top or a quarter-zip to where it is normally worn, and set the collar the way it sits, so the neckline is not left to interpretation.
  • Photograph the back for prints and shoulder panels, and take one close-up of the smallest logo or the mesh, in daylight and without flash glare on reflective parts.
Questions

Virtual try-on for sportswear, answered.

Is a sports set photographed as one product?

Yes, when it is sold as one. Lay the top and the bottoms in the same frame, in wearing order, with a gap between them so neither covers the other. On the result, the two parts should share colours, trims and logo placement exactly as the real set does; check each.

Which pose suits activewear without hiding it?

Standing front and three-quarter show panels and logos most clearly, and walking adds movement that fits the category. Arms crossed covers a chest logo, so it is rarely the right choice for a branded top. More than one pose of a single model can be ordered at once.

Can sportswear be shown outdoors?

Yes. Besides studio white and studio grey there are outdoor and lifestyle backgrounds, with locations such as a city street or a garden and light set to morning, golden hour, overcast or the scene's own. A studio image remains the plainer record of colour and panel layout.
