A skirt as it hangs, worn by a studio model.
A skirt lying flat hides its own shape: an A-line looks like a triangle and a pencil skirt like a tube. Herofab places the skirt on a studio model from one straight-on photo and is briefed to keep its fabric, its length and the way it is cut.
What changes when a skirt is worn.
- 1
Length against the leg
Mini, knee-length, midi and maxi are the first filter a buyer applies. The proportion comes from the photo and from the size setting; the image illustrates it and does not measure it. Note where the hem falls on the model and make sure the listing text names the length in the same words.
- 2
Pleats, tiers and volume
Knife pleats, box pleats, gathered tiers and bias-cut panels all behave differently once they hang from a waist. The tool is briefed to keep the construction that the photo shows. Count pleats or tiers on the delivered image, and judge whether a full skirt received the fullness of the real one.
- 3
Slit, wrap and waist
A front or side slit, a wrap overlap with its tie, a button-through placket or a concealed zip decides how the skirt opens. Each sits on one side of the garment, so the image has to place it on the correct side. Compare left and right with the source before publishing.
Photographing a skirt before upload.
- Clip the skirt to a hanger by the waistband or lay it flat, and spread the hem to its full sweep so that the outline shows how wide it really is.
- Close the zip, do up the buttons and tie a wrap skirt the way it is worn; an open placket is read as the design.
- Let pleats fall straight without pressing them apart, and add a close-up when the fabric is lace, sequinned or printed at a small scale.
Virtual try-on for skirts, answered.
Is the lining of a sheer skirt shown?
The image is built from what the photo records. If the lining is shorter than the outer layer, photograph the skirt against a plain surface in a contrasting colour so the two layers can be told apart. See-through fabric is a fine detail, and it should be examined closely on the result.
Which pose suits a pleated or flared skirt?
Walking gives a flared or pleated skirt movement and shows its volume, while standing front shows the length cleanly. A pencil skirt reads well in a three-quarter pose. A listing can carry more than one of these, since one model can be ordered in several poses at a time.
What is worn with the skirt in the image?
The upper body is given a plain piece and the remainder of the look stays quiet, which lets the skirt carry the picture. A waistband, a belt or a paperbag waist should therefore remain visible. Look at the waist on the delivered image and confirm the detail you sell can be seen.
