Leggings on a body, where their shape appears.

Leggings have almost no shape until they are worn; flat, every pair is two narrow tubes. Herofab dresses a studio model in the pair so that the waistband height, the seam lines and any colour panels can be seen as they sit on a leg.

Worth knowing

What an image of leggings needs to show.

  1. 1

    Waistband height

High-rise, mid-rise, a fold-over band or a crossover front is the main choice a buyer makes. The band is read from the photo, so it has to be laid at its real height and not rolled. Verify that the band on the model sits where the real one does and has kept its width.

  2. 2

    Seams and panels

Flat-locked seams curving over the thigh, a gusset, mesh inserts at the calf and contrast side panels are the design of a pair of leggings. Follow each seam on the delivered image from waistband to ankle and make sure that none was straightened or dropped along the way.

  3. 3

    Fabric and coverage

Matte or with a sheen, ribbed, brushed or smooth: the surface of a stretch knit shows in the photo and is briefed to be kept. A generated image is no evidence of how opaque the fabric is once stretched, so describe coverage in the listing text and do not rely on the picture for it.

Shooting leggings as a flat lay.

  • Lay the pair flat on a surface that contrasts with it, legs parallel and a little apart, with the waistband unrolled and both ankle hems in the frame.
  • Pull the fabric smooth without stretching it wider than it rests; a stretched pair is read as a looser cut.
  • Dark pairs lose their seams in a dim room. Shoot near a window, and add a close-up of mesh panels, a phone pocket or a logo on the waistband.
Questions

Virtual try-on for leggings, answered.

Do side pockets and a waistband pocket appear in the image?

They belong to the garment and are briefed to be kept when the photo shows them. A pocket sewn in the same colour as the leg is easy to miss, so arrange the pair with the pocket lying flat and visible, add a close-up, and look for it on the result, above all on turned poses.

Should leggings be photographed worn or flat?

Both are accepted: the source may be a flat lay, on a hanger, on a mannequin or worn. A flat lay is the simpler route and shows both legs fully. If the pair is photographed worn, keep the whole garment in the frame, from the top of the waistband to the ankle hem.

Can cropped and full-length leggings be told apart?

The length is taken from the photo, so a cropped pair should end at the calf and a full-length pair at the ankle. Confirm this on the delivered image. Sizes run from XS to XXL, and the size steers how the pair is drawn on the model; it is not a fitting of stretch fabric on a person.
