How much does a one-day fashion photoshoot cost?

A one-day e-commerce fashion photoshoot of 30 looks costs about $5,700 to $10,400 when it is built from published rates, most of them dated 2026. The figure is a worked example, not a market average: Herofab found no official figure for a shoot total, so the table adds up individual rate cards and shows each input.

The example assumes 30 looks with three retouched images each, 90 images in all, shot in one studio day in the US. One UK e-commerce studio puts the daily ceiling at around 30 to 50 medium-complexity garments at two or three angles, so 30 looks is a full day and not an unusually light one.

What the worked example leaves out

The table leaves out casting, sample shipping, steaming, catering, an assistant, travel and tax. Most lines rest on one published source, so a real quote can sit outside the range in either direction. Each input is named in the sections below so that a local rate can replace it.

How much does a fashion model cost per shoot?

A fashion model for an e-commerce shoot costs £150 to £400 a day according to one London agency, and $2,400 a day on one US-dollar rate card once its 20% agency fee is added. The two figures are not directly comparable: the US card bundles two years of e-commerce and social use, while the London range excludes usage.

A Miami studio's rate card, updated October 2026, lists models separately from $1,000 a full day (non-agency) or $1,200 (agency), and does not state usage for that fee. Using $1,200 in the worked example would take about $1,260 off each total ($1,200 less, plus 5% contingency).

In the worked example the model line comes to $80 per look ($2,400 divided by 30 looks). The same rate card charges overtime at 1.5 times the rate, fittings at half rate, and a one-hour minimum on photo shoots.

US Bureau of Labor Statistics data, published on the Department of Labor's O*NET site, put the median wage for models at $23.30 an hour in 2025, across about 4,200 jobs. That figure is worker pay across all modelling work, not the price a brand pays for a booked day, and multiplying it by eight does not estimate a shoot.

What do usage rights add to a model's day rate?

Usage rights can cost more than the shoot day itself. The Diversity Agency says usage is paid separately and is often two to ten times the day rate, with the example of a £600 day and two-year worldwide all-media usage landing closer to £6,000.

Human Models prices the same idea as a fixed item: a full buyout of images at $1,000 for up to three shoot days, with the 20% agency fee added to all rates and usages. Neither figure sets a norm.

Photographers charge for use as well. A pricing guide published in April 2026 lists surcharges on the base rate of 25% to 50% for website and e-commerce use, 50% to 100% for print and 75% to 150% for paid digital ads. Agree the media, the territory and the duration in writing before accepting any quote.

How much do a photographer, stylist and make-up artist cost for a day?

A fashion photographer costs about $800 to $1,500 for a full day at intermediate level and $1,500 to $3,500 or more at experienced level, according to the Framed by Davinci pricing guide of April 2026. The guide states no survey or method, so the figures are indicative. They cover the creative fee only; usage, post-production and travel are billed separately. The same guide puts fashion day rates overall at $500 to $3,000 or more, in line with Shopify's January 2026 range of $500 to $3,000 a day for product photographers, before support staff and equipment.

Official data gives no day rate. Bureau of Labor Statistics data on O*NET put the median photographer wage at $44,660 a year in 2025.

A hair and make-up artist costs $450 to $750 a day at mid level and $750 to $1,200 at senior level, labour only, according to The Rate Guide, updated August 2026. A standard hair and make-up kit adds $150 to $300 a day. The guide says major markets pay about 30% more and small markets about 15% less.

Stylist rates are the least documented line. Herofab could not confirm a 2026 rate survey for stylists. One US commercial wardrobe stylist lists $1,000 for a full day, $500 for a half day and $500 for prep, on an undated page with a 2018 copyright line, so the example treats that figure as a dated reference and not as a current market rate.

How much does a photo studio cost to hire for a fashion shoot?

A mid-range London photo studio costs about £400 to £1,200 a day and a smaller one about £150 to £500, according to a 2026 guide from a London studio operator, which does not say whether VAT is included.

New York hourly rooms can cost less for a basic setup. FD Photo Studio listed cyc-wall rooms from $29.99 to $54.99 an hour on 31 October 2026, with equipment included and a one-hour minimum. Those are from-prices.

How much does retouching add per image?

Retouching adds from under $1 to $75 per image, depending on who does the work and how much changes. Pixelz listed a Professional plan on 31 October 2026 at $95 a month with a starting price of $0.95 per image. The Framed by Davinci guide lists additional retouching beyond standard edits at $25 to $75 per image.

The spread matters at volume. For 90 images, the Pixelz starting price comes to about $181 and the guide's range comes to $2,250 to $6,750. The worked example uses $25 as its high case; at $75 the total rises to about $15,100.

What does a fashion photoshoot cost per look?

A fashion photoshoot costs about $115 to $1,080 per look in the worked example, because most of a day's cost is fixed and is shared across however many looks are shot. Only retouching rises with volume. The table reruns the same day with different look counts, at three images per look.

A small brand with eight looks would rarely book a full day, so the top row overstates its likely cost. The Framed by Davinci guide lists half-day photographer rates of $400 to $800 at intermediate level.

Looks in the dayImagesDay totalCost per look
824$5,626 to $8,652$703 to $1,082
1545$5,647 to $9,203$376 to $614
3090$5,692 to $10,385$190 to $346
50150$5,751 to $11,960$115 to $239

Is a per-image studio cheaper than booking your own shoot?

A per-image studio is usually cheaper than booking a crew, because one price covers the photographer, the set and the editing. ProShot Media, a Los Angeles studio, listed an on-model session on 31 October 2026 at $199 an hour, at about 50 to 250 photos an hour, with editing at $8 per delivered photo. For 90 images at the slowest of those speeds, that comes to about two hours and $1,118.

The ProShot Media page does not say whether a model's fee is included. If a model is booked separately at the $2,400 rate above, the same 90 images come to about $3,518, against $5,692 to $10,385 for the booked day. A brand gives up control of casting, styling and location in exchange.

Garments shown without a model cost less again. Ghost Mannequin NYC listed $65 per image for 1 to 15 images, falling to $50 for 51 or more, with retouching and commercial usage rights included: $4,500 for 90 images. ProShot Media listed ghost mannequin at $25 a photo plus a one-time $120 setup fee per product type, with 15% off orders of 50 or more photos: about $2,033 for 90 images.

For product images on white, ProductPhoto.com listed $40 per photo for 1 to 10 photos, $35 for 11 to 50 and $30 for 51 or more, read 31 October 2026, and adds $15 to a photo for a hand or foot model. Soona listed $39 per photo on 13 October 2026.

When is a fashion photoshoot the right purchase?

A fashion photoshoot is the right purchase when the image has to prove something only a real garment on a real body can prove: fit across sizes, how a fabric moves, a recognisable face, or a campaign built around a place.

A shoot is harder to justify for repeat catalogue work: a small run of looks, extra colours of a garment already shot, or new poses of an approved image. Those jobs are often handled with AI tools from a photo of the garment. They carry a different cost: Herofab's automated pre-delivery check flagged 20.8% of 303 generated test outputs and missed faults such as cropping, so every image needs comparing with the real item. The guide to AI product photo errors lists what went wrong. The check covered images made between 24 September and 12 October 2026, before Herofab's late-October image engine change.

Cost per image for AI tools is covered in a separate guide, What AI product photography costs. The question of when AI can stand in for a shoot is covered in Can AI replace a fashion photoshoot?

Checklist

  • Count looks and images per look before requesting any quote.
  • Ask each quote to state the media, territory and duration of use.
  • Ask whether the agency fee sits inside or on top of the day rate.
  • Confirm the overtime rate and the hour at which the booked day ends.
  • Agree the retouching level and the price per image in writing.
  • Add a contingency of about 5%.
  • Divide the total by the number of looks and compare it with a per-image quote.

Questions

In short.

How much does a model cost for one e-commerce shoot day?

Published figures run from £150 to £400 a day at one London agency, with usage extra, to $2,400 a day on one US-dollar rate card that includes two years of e-commerce and social use and a 20% agency fee. Neither is a market average, so the media, territory and duration should be priced in the quote.

What should a small brand budget for its first fashion shoot?

A photographer alone costs $700 to $1,400 for a four-hour shoot of two or three looks with up to 40 edited images, according to one April 2026 pricing guide for beginner to intermediate photographers. A model, styling, hair and make-up, and a studio are extra.

Why do published fashion shoot prices differ so much?

Published prices differ because they mix cities, experience levels and usage terms, and some quote the day fee while others include rights and agency fees. Most come from a single agency, studio or guide. Comparing them needs the same number of looks, the same images per look and the same usage.

How does the cost of a fashion shoot compare with AI images?

The worked one-day shoot in this guide comes to $63 to $115 per image. Herofab's Virtual try-on costs $0.20–$0.60 per image, and other tools are compared in What AI product photography costs. AI images still need checking against the garment, and they do not prove fit.
