Check your photo against Ricardo's rules.
Ricardo sets rules for the main image that can be measured from the photo: background colour and cut-off edges. Drop a photo to see which ones it meets. It runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Choose a marketplace and a photo.
Rules come from each marketplace's own help pages, summarised in the guides (checked 27 September 2026). Size, file size and format are checked as well.

- Main image
- Light, neutral background (recommended)
- Main image
- The whole product in frame, nothing cut off (recommended)
- Crop
- Ricardo crops pictures to the 4:3 format, so horizontal photos look better in the search results
- Background
- The item in front of a light, neutral background, photographed in daylight without direct sun and with the flash off; a calm, tidy setting with other objects removed
- Main image
- The complete item, filling the picture well and fully visible
- Details
- Different angles and the details that make the difference, such as the brand; scratches, marks and signs of use must be clearly visible
- Product feed
- 1 to 10 image URLs per product, JPG or PNG, a minimum resolution of 700 px and at most 5 MB per image; a changed image is only picked up when its URL changes too
- Not allowed
- Stock images, and watermarks, QR codes, logos or contact details in feed images; in every listing image, any self-promotion or advertising for others, and contact details such as a postal, web or e-mail address
- Rights
- Only images you created yourself or whose use the rights holder has approved; picture and text must not contradict each other
How each rule is measured.
- Background colour
- The background colour is the median of a thin band along all four edges. A pure-white rule passes only when that band is RGB 255, 255, 255; near-white values such as 253 are reported with their exact colour.
- Cut-off edges
- A product whose outline reaches the edge of the frame is reported as cut off, together with the edges it touches.
- Scene photos
- Room and lifestyle photos have no plain background to measure against, so fill, edges and shadow are marked as not measured rather than guessed.
