- Main image
- The main product photo, Displayed on Product Page (medium), has a default size of 400 pixels; the first image in the row is the main product image
- Zoom
- The High Resolution Zoom Image (large) defaults to 1,200 pixels; zoom only works when it is at least 300 pixels wide or high and 20% larger than the medium image, which is 480 pixels or more at the default medium size
- Recommended
- Upload an image of at least 1,200 pixels to keep the default zoom size, because the system cannot generate a zoom image larger than the original photo
- Formats
- Product photo files use the extensions .jpg, .jpeg, .png or .gif; .jpg / .jpeg is recommended for product photos, with .png or .gif for other kinds of graphics
- Compression
- JPG files can generally be saved at as low as 80% quality without noticeable deterioration
- Resizing
- Uploaded images are resized automatically and stored at multiple sizes: medium for the product page, large for zoom, small for category results and tiny for the cart
- Alternate images
- Alternate images appear as thumbnails below the main product image; the default alternate thumbnail size is 50 × 50 pixels, and they expand in the Lightbox when clicked
- Number
- A main image plus alternate images, each further alternate numbered consecutively; the developer naming reference states that unlimited photos are supported
- Alt text
- The Photo Alt Text field adds a title to the product's main image for search engines
- Size consistency
- All product photos should be the same size when uploaded, for consistent product grids and lists

Volusion's zoom image defaults to 1,200 pixels and cannot be generated larger than the original photo, so Volusion advises uploading an image of at least 1,200 pixels. Square 2K output is 2,048 × 2,048 pixels, above that. Volusion recommends .jpg for product photos and asks for all product photos to be the same size when uploaded; Herofab images can be downloaded as JPG, and a catalogue ordered in one aspect ratio and one resolution has one size throughout.
