- Formats
- JPEG, PNG or GIF are the recommended file types for story and update images, and reward, add-on and item images accept JPG, PNG or GIF; TIFF, BMP, HEIC and HEIF files cannot be uploaded
- File size
- Images must be 50 MB or less, in the project description and updates as well as on rewards, add-ons and items

- Scale story images to 700 px or higher before uploading so they appear properly; all images are compressed when uploaded and end up at a lower resolution than the original file

- Number
- An optional image can be added to each reward tier, add-on and item
- Spotlight image

- Animated GIFs
- Some animated GIFs do not function in the editor and show as static images; replacing them with WEBP files under 50 MB is recommended
- Not allowed
- Photorealistic renderings are not allowed in hardware and product design projects, whose creators are required to show working prototypes
- AI images
- Projects using AI tools to generate images, text or other output must disclose, in the submission and on the project page, what AI technology is used, how the AI-produced content is incorporated and which elements are created using AI output
What Kickstarter asks for, covered.
Kickstarter does not allow photorealistic renderings in hardware and product design projects, whose creators are required to show working prototypes, and requires projects that use AI tools to disclose what is generated. Herofab images are AI-generated, so Herofab does not recommend them for showing the product in such a project. Where AI-generated images are used elsewhere in a project, they are disclosed in the submission and on the project page. The free image size checker reads a file in the browser and tests it against the format and file size limits on this page.
