- Cover size
- As a rule of thumb, an image cover should be 1,280 × 720 pixels (width × height) at a minimum of 72 DPI
- Formats
- A cover can be a PNG, JPEG, MOV or GIF file, or a linked YouTube or Vimeo video
- File size
- Image covers must be smaller than 50 MB
- Number
- Up to 8 covers per product
- Automatic resize
- An image larger than 4,096 pixels on its longest side is automatically resized down to that size shortly after upload; GIFs are not resized, so their animation is preserved
- Aspect ratio
- Covers do not have to be widescreen: each cover is shown in a frame that matches its own shape, a cover taller than it is wide is never shown in a frame taller than 80% of the window, and for multiple covers Gumroad still recommends making them the same shape
- Thumbnail
- Optional and entirely separate from cover images; at least 600 × 600 pixels; shown in customers' libraries, on Gumroad Discover and on the profile page
- First cover
- Gumroad recommends using an image as the first cover and putting videos in the product description, because the carousel controls are hidden while a video is showing
- Not allowed
- A PDF cannot be uploaded as a cover image
What Gumroad asks for, covered.
Gumroad's rule of thumb for an image cover is 1,280 × 720 pixels, a 16:9 shape, and a thumbnail is at least 600 × 600 pixels. Herofab's ad creative tool delivers a 16:9 banner at 2,048 × 1,152 pixels, above the cover size, and square 2K output is 2,048 × 2,048 pixels, above the thumbnail minimum. Gumroad resizes an image only when it is larger than 4,096 pixels on its longest side, which 2K and 4K output are not. For several covers Gumroad recommends making them the same shape, so order them in one format.
16:9 cover
The 16:9 ad banner is 2,048 × 1,152 pixels, above Gumroad's 1,280 × 720 rule of thumb.
Square thumbnail
Square 2K output is 2,048 pixels per side, above the 600 × 600 pixels a thumbnail needs.
