# Wayfair imagery, silhouette and setting from one photo.

Wayfair asks for a mix of single-product silhouettes and environmental shots, from several angles, and for images that show how big a product is and how it works. From one product photo, Herofab's product studio places the product in a home setting, and background removal gives the silhouette on white.

## The mix of images Wayfair describes.

1. ### Environmental shots in a home setting

An environmental shot shows the product where it is used. The product studio's home setting places a lamp, a vase or a cushion in a domestic scene from one photo, and the outdoor scene suits products used outside. The product is briefed to keep its shape, colours and materials; compare the finish, grain or weave, with the real item.
2. ### Silhouettes from several angles

A single-product silhouette shows the product by itself. Herofab's background remover delivers a product photo on white, and the product studio adds front, three-quarter, side and top-down angles on a studio white ground. Wayfair asks for several angles and for at least two images to start, and adds that more help a product stand out.
3. ### Size and function need real photographs

Wayfair wants images that show how big the product is and how it works. A hand or a person beside the product gives scale in a photograph, but the product studio is briefed to use only the product, so such a reference is not carried into the scene. Views that establish scale or show a mechanism in use are photographs the seller takes.

## Source photos for a silhouette and a setting.

- Photograph the product complete and straight on, with base, shade, cord and handles inside the picture; the silhouette and the home setting are both built from this one view.
- Where a product opens, folds or extends, photograph it a second time in that state, a lid lifted or a handle extended, as the source for an image of how it works.
- Photograph fabric, wood and metal in soft daylight with the flash off; the home setting brings its own light, and the source photo remains the record of the product's real finish.

## Product photos for Wayfair, answered.

**Does square 2K output reach the size Wayfair recommends?**

Yes. Wayfair sets a minimum size for an image to be featured and recommends a larger square; both are in the table on this page. Square 2K output from Herofab reaches the recommended size and is above the minimum. Order the images square from the start, so that no later crop has to change their shape. Whether an image is featured remains Wayfair's decision.

**How many Wayfair images can come from one product photo?**

Wayfair asks for at least two images to start and says more help a product stand out. One source photo yields a silhouette on white through the background remover and, in the product studio, front, three-quarter, side and top-down views and a home setting. Images of scale and of the product in use come from the seller's own camera, so a full set combines both kinds.

**Which scene counts as an environmental shot?**

Wayfair's guidance, as summarised on this page, names environmental shots as one part of the mix beside silhouettes and prescribes no particular room. In the product studio the home setting is the nearest choice, with the outdoor scene for garden pieces and the seller's own background image as a third route. Keep the product the largest object in the picture.

**How much does it cost?**

4 credits per image, plus one credit for 4K. The cost is shown before you generate, and if a job fails the credits are returned. The 20 free credits at sign-up cover 5 images with this tool.
