# The item itself, unpacked, on white.

bol describes its main image as the front of the item, out of its packaging, on a white, neutral background with no visible shadows, and without models, texts or a lifestyle setting. Herofab's packshot studio delivers the product alone on white from a phone photo, with a no-shadow option.

## Where bol draws the line.

1. ### Out of the box, front to the camera

The main image shows the item and not its packaging, and it shows the front. Herofab works the same way at the source: a product still in its packaging is flagged before a credit is spent, and the front is the required view. Unpack the item and photograph the side a buyer sees first.
2. ### White, neutral, no visible shadow

bol's main image has a white, neutral background without visible shadows, and no model, text or lifestyle setting. In the packshot studio that means the studio white background with the shadow set to none, not marble, wood or an outdoor ground. At full size, look for a grey halo under the product.
3. ### Self-promotion is still enforced

Discount labels, watermarks, company names or logos and promotional text are not allowed. Images outside the size limits return an error message. bol has stopped enforcing its other image guidelines, yet it continues to enforce the rules on self-promotion, so a shop name or discount sticker on the image is what bol still acts on.

## What bol asks for.

Source: [bol Partner Platform — These rules apply to your images](https://partnerplatform.bol.com/en/idp/rules-for-images). Checked 24 September 2026.

- **Size:** At least 500 × 500 and at most 6,000 × 6,000 pixels; white space does not count towards these limits
- **File size:** At least 30 KB and at most 10 MB
- **Zoom:** Works with images of at least 1,200 × 1,200 pixels
- **Main image:** The front of the item, out of its packaging, on a white, neutral background with no visible shadows; no models, texts or lifestyle setting
- **Not allowed:** Discount labels, watermarks, company names or logos, and promotional text
- **Enforcement:** Images outside the size limits get an error message; since 1 July 2025 bol no longer enforces its other image guidelines, but still enforces the rules on self-promotion

## Photographing an item bol shows unpacked.

- Take the item out of its box, sleeve or polybag, remove hang tags that cover the front, and photograph it alone on a plain surface.
- Shoot the front straight on with the whole item in the frame: bol's main image is a front view, and Herofab needs the front as its source.
- Keep shop cards, discount stickers and branded props out of the picture; the tool is briefed to use only the product, and none of them may reach the final image.

## Product photos for bol, answered.

**Does white space count towards bol's size limits?**

No. bol sets a minimum and a maximum size and states that white space does not count towards them, so a small product in a large white field is not helped by the field. A packshot fills most of the frame. The bol download is within the published limits, and square 2K and 4K output clears the size at which bol's zoom works.

**Where do on-model and lifestyle images belong on bol?**

Not in the main image, which bol describes without models and without a lifestyle setting. Herofab can make on-model views with Virtual try-on and scene images from the same source photo for the images that follow it; whether and where to use them is for the seller to read in bol's current guideline.

**How can a file be tested against bol's limits before upload?**

Herofab's free image size checker reads the file in the browser, without sending it anywhere, and tests it against bol's published rules, including the size limits that return an error message at bol. The comparison with the product, small label text first, remains the seller's task.

**How much does it cost?**

4 credits per image, plus one credit for 4K. The cost is shown before you generate, and if a job fails the credits are returned. The 20 free credits at sign-up cover 5 images with this tool.
