# Shoe photography, one view at a time.

A shoe listing is a small set of views, each doing one job: the profile, the toe, the pair from above. Product studio takes phone photos of footwear on any surface and delivers them on a studio ground or in a scene, with footwear chosen as the product kind and the upper, the sole and the laces briefed to stay as photographed.

## The views a shoe listing is built from.

1. ### Single shoe or pair

A single shoe in side profile is the standard view: it shows the last, the heel height and the sole line with nothing in the way. The pair answers other questions, such as how the two sit together and how the lacing looks from the front. Decide image by image and photograph that arrangement, because the image follows the photo.
2. ### Three angles, three jobs

Side is the profile: quarter, heel counter and midsole in one line. Three-quarter turns the toe towards the buyer and shows the toe cap, the vamp and the width of the shoe. Top-down is for the pair, with the tongue, the eyelet rows and the sock lining in view. Each angle needs a source photo taken from roughly that direction.
3. ### Ground, sole and shadow

A shoe is made to stand, so the ground under it is part of the image. On studio white, grey or beige the soft shadow anchors the outsole; a podium suits a single dress shoe or a heel; outdoors suits boots and trainers. Look along the sole edge: the parts that touch a real floor should touch this one, with no strip of light beneath.

## Photographing shoes view by view.

- For the profile, set one shoe on a table edge or the floor and bring the phone down to the level of the sole, square to the outer side of the shoe.
- Lace the shoe through every eyelet with even tension and hide the ends inside the collar; a shoe tree or rolled socks keeps the vamp from creasing.
- For the pair from above, stand both shoes on the floor a finger's width apart and photograph from directly overhead, toes pointing away from the camera.

## Product photography for shoes, answered.

**Which angle should come first in a shoe listing?**

The side profile of a single shoe is the standard first view, because toe shape, heel and sole are all read from it. Three-quarter usually follows, to show the toe and the width, and the pair from above after that. A detail close-up of the logo or the stitching can be added to the upload so that small parts are recorded sharply.

**Can one photo of the shoe produce all the angles?**

An angle is chosen for each image, and it shows what the photo holds. A side photo records one side of the shoe, with no tongue label and no insole. For views that differ a great deal, such as profile and top-down, take one source photo per view. That keeps each image tied to what the camera recorded.

**Which scenes suit footwear beyond studio white?**

Studio grey or beige gives white trainers an outline that a white ground does not. A podium presents a single heel, loafer or boot as an object. Outdoors fits hiking boots, sandals and running shoes, and wood suits leather shoes. A photo of the seller's own shop floor or shelf can be uploaded as the background in place of these.

**How much does it cost?**

4 credits per image, plus one credit for 4K. The cost is shown before you generate, and if a job fails the credits are returned. The 20 free credits at sign-up cover 5 images with this tool.
