# Cosmetics photographed once, shown in a styled scene.

Skincare and make-up come in small containers covered in print: a brand mark, a product name, a shade, a list of ingredients. Herofab takes one photo of the tube, jar or compact and places it in a studio or styled scene, and is briefed to keep the container, its colours and its printed text.

## What cosmetics packaging asks of an image.

1. ### Printed text on the pack

A cosmetics pack carries more lettering for its size than almost any other product: the name, the claim line, the volume, the shade name and the ingredient list in very small type. Read the front panel word by word in the result. Text too small to read in the source photo cannot be trusted in the image.
2. ### Closed or open

Closed, a product shows its packaging and brand; open, it shows what is bought: the bullet of a lipstick, the pans of a palette, the texture in a jar. The scene follows the state in the photo. Photograph the product in the state the listing needs, and take a separate photo for the other state.
3. ### Metallic caps and soft tubes

Chrome caps, gold collars and mirrored compacts reflect; squeezable tubes dent and crease. Both come through from the photo. Use an unused, undented sample, and compare the cap finish, the crimp at the end of a tube and the colour of the plastic with the product before publishing.

## Photographing a tube, jar or compact for a scene.

- Stand a tube on its cap or lay it flat with the front panel square to the lens; a jar should show its label, not its lid, unless a top-down image is the aim.
- For an open product, place the lid or cap beside it without overlap, and clean smudges from the rim, the mirror and the pans.
- Use diffuse daylight and no flash, since glossy lacquer and metallic print turn white under direct light and the text beneath disappears.

## Product photography for cosmetics, answered.

**Does the ingredient list stay readable?**

Very small type is the hardest detail in a product image, and Herofab does not promise it. The tool is briefed to keep printed text as photographed, and small text is the detail to check first. Read the ingredient block at full size, and where buyers must be able to read it, add a real close-up photo of the back panel to the listing.

**Can I show a lipstick or a palette open?**

Yes, if it is photographed open. The tool works from the product as it appears in the photo and is not briefed to open it, twist it up or swatch it. Twist the bullet to the height wanted, set the cap next to it and upload that photo; the open product is then placed in the chosen scene.

**Should several products from a range go in one photo?**

One product per photo is the guidance, fully visible and not overlapping another item. Overlapping tubes and jars hide parts of each other that cannot be added back faithfully. Photograph each item of the range separately and choose the same scene, angle and shadow for all of them so the listings match.

**How much does it cost?**

4 credits per image, plus one credit for 4K. The cost is shown before you generate, and if a job fails the credits are returned. The 20 free credits at sign-up cover 5 images with this tool.
