# Bag photography, front, depth and strap.

A bag has a front, a depth and a strap, and one image seldom carries all three. Product studio takes a phone photo of a handbag, tote, backpack or clutch, with bag as the product kind, and delivers it on a studio ground or in a scene such as marble, wood, a podium or a home setting, at the angle and with the shadow chosen.

## What a bag image is judged on.

1. ### A standing shape

An empty bag folds in on itself, and the image follows the photo. Structured bags need square corners and a level top line; soft hobos and totes need enough filling to show their volume without bulging. Compare the result with the bag from the front: the base should sit flat and the sides should rise as they do on the real one.
2. ### Depth from the three-quarter view

The front view gives the face of the bag and nothing of its width. Three-quarter shows the gusset, the side seam and how far the base runs back, which tells a buyer what fits inside. Side shows the profile of a slim clutch or a deep bucket bag; top-down shows an open top, a zip line or the lining.
3. ### Straps, hardware and glare

A strap can frame a bag or cut across it. Laid in one loose curve behind or beside the body, it stays readable from end to end; follow it on the result, including the buckle holes and both anchor rings. Polished clasps and chain links catch the light of the scene, and the engraving on a clasp should remain legible under the highlight.

## Preparing a bag for the source photo.

- Pad the bag with tissue or a folded towel until the panels are smooth, and set it on a table so that it stands without being held.
- Arrange the strap before shooting: drape a shoulder strap behind the bag in one arc, clip a detachable strap on at both ends, and keep a chain from twisting.
- For a three-quarter image, turn the bag slightly in the photo so that one side panel is recorded, and angle metal parts away from the window to avoid glare.

## Product photography for bags, answered.

**How large will the bag appear in a scene?**

A photo records shape and proportion, not size, so a mini bag and a weekender can fill the frame alike. Judge the result against the setting: on a podium or a home surface the bag should look plausible for what it is. For true scale, virtual try-on shows a bag carried by a studio model, and the listing text gives the measurements.

**Should the strap be attached or removed for the photo?**

Photograph the bag the way it is sold and should be seen. An attached strap, laid in a tidy curve and whole inside the frame, is part of the product and is briefed to stay. A strap left out of the photo is left out of the image, and a strap cut by the edge of the frame cannot be added back faithfully.

**Which scenes suit a leather bag, and which a canvas one?**

Leather with polished hardware sits well on marble, a podium or studio beige, with a soft shadow or, for patent finishes, a reflection. Canvas, straw and nylon suit wood, linen, a home setting or outdoors. Studio grey separates a white or cream bag from its ground. The seller's own background image can stand in for any of them.

**How much does it cost?**

4 credits per image, plus one credit for 4K. The cost is shown before you generate, and if a job fails the credits are returned. The 20 free credits at sign-up cover 5 images with this tool.
