# Off the hanger, onto a studio model.

A hanger photo needs no table and no helper: the garment on a door, a rail or a hook, shot with a phone. Herofab uses it as the source for an on-model image and dresses a studio model in the piece.

## What a hanger does to a garment.

1. ### Fabric that falls

On a hanger the fabric hangs under its own weight, so the length, the drape of a viscose dress or the stiffness of denim are visible in the source. Herofab is briefed to keep fabric, shape, colours, buttons, print and logos as that photo shows them.
2. ### Shoulders and necklines that sag

A narrow hanger lets shoulder seams slide and wide necklines drop to one side, and knitwear stretches where it rests. Check the shoulder line and the neckline of the result against the garment itself before publishing.
3. ### Sleeves and the reverse side

Sleeves hang close to the body and can cover a side seam or a pocket. A print or a zip on the reverse is known to the tool only when a back photo is added; back prints then stay on the back, and labels sewn inside stay inside.

## Hanging a garment for the source photo.

- Choose a hanger as wide as the shoulders, close the top button or the zip, and hang the piece on a plain door or wall that contrasts with its colour.
- Pull the sleeves slightly outwards so they do not lie over the body, and smooth the front panel downwards so the hem hangs level.
- Hold the phone at the height of the garment's centre, straight on, with the whole piece from the hanger hook to the hem inside the frame.

## Hanger to model, answered.

**Which garments can be photographed on a hanger?**

Tops, bottoms and one-piece garments: shirts, jackets and dresses on a shoulder hanger, trousers and skirts on a clip hanger. Whatever the type, the item hangs alone, fully visible and unfolded; a second garment underneath or a folded waistband hides parts that cannot be added back faithfully.

**Is a full clothes rail in a shop good enough as a setting?**

Only if the garment hangs alone. On a full rail the neighbouring pieces lie over the sleeves and sides, and overlapping items are to be avoided. Move the piece to a free hook or a door, so that one item is fully visible and shot straight on.

**Which model wears the garment?**

A ready-made studio model, a model created in the app by gender, age range, ethnicity, body type and hair, or a person whose photo the seller has permission to use. Several poses of the same model can be ordered together, on a studio or an outdoor background.

**How much does it cost?**

5 credits per image, plus one credit for 4K. The cost is shown before you generate, and if a job fails the credits are returned. The 20 free credits at sign-up cover 4 images with this tool.
