# The fabric, close enough to read.

Buyers cannot touch the cloth, so they zoom into it. From a product photo or an image Herofab delivered, the detail shot frames the fabric texture on its own: the gauge of a knit, the line of a twill, the pile of a fleece or the repeat of a print.

## What a fabric close-up has to tell.

1. ### Structure of the cloth

Jersey, rib, cable, bouclé, twill, satin, corduroy and fleece each have a surface a buyer recognises. The close-up should show that structure as the source does. A rib must stay a rib with the same width, and a cable must keep its crossings.
2. ### Colour and print at scale

Up close, colour is judged more strictly and a print is seen motif by motif. Compare the shade with the garment in daylight, and the size and spacing of the motifs with the real repeat. Lettering inside a print is small text and deserves a careful read.
3. ### Sheen, pile and transparency

Satin shines, velvet and mohair have a pile that catches light, and voile or mesh lets what is behind show through. These qualities come from how the source was lit. A flat, flash-lit photo gives the close-up little to work from.

## The source photo for a fabric close-up.

- Photograph the garment in soft daylight from the side, which rakes across the surface and brings out the texture.
- Hold the phone steady and near enough that the weave or the knit is already visible in the photo; the close-up cannot invent a structure the source does not show.
- Smooth the area that will be shown and keep it free of lint and deep creases, which would appear in the close-up as part of the fabric.

## Fabric close-up photos, answered.

**Can I choose which part of the garment the close-up shows?**

The detail list includes fabric texture, print or logo, stitching and several construction details. Choose fabric texture for the cloth itself, or print or logo when the pattern is the point. The framing of the close-up within that choice is made by the tool.

**Does a close-up replace a fabric description?**

No. It shows the surface; it does not state the composition or the weight. Keep the fibre content and the care information in the listing text, and let the close-up support them.

**Can the close-up come from an on-model image?**

Yes. The source can be the seller's own product photo or an image Herofab delivered, including one on a model. The fabric has to be sharp and well lit in that image for the close-up to carry its texture.

**How much does it cost?**

3 credits per image, plus one credit for 4K. The cost is shown before you generate, and if a job fails the credits are returned. The 20 free credits at sign-up cover 6 images with this tool.
