# Check your photo against Etsy's rules.

Etsy sets rules for the main image that can be measured from the photo: thumbnail crops. Drop a photo to see which ones it meets. It runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

- **Main image:** Room to crop to square, portrait and landscape without losing the product
- **Recommended:** A width and height of at least 2,000 pixels
- **First photo:** At least 635 pixels wide and high, or it may show up lower in search; square or landscape
- **File size:** Files over 1 MB may not finish uploading on a slow connection
- **Thumbnails:** Leave enough border to crop to square, portrait and landscape without losing the product

## How each rule is measured.

- **Thumbnail crops:** The product must fit inside centred square, 4:5 portrait and 5:4 landscape crops of the photo.
- **Scene photos:** Room and lifestyle photos have no plain background to measure against, so fill, edges and shadow are marked as not measured rather than guessed.
