# Jeans details, rivet, stitch and fade.

Denim buyers zoom into the things that set one pair apart from another: copper rivets, the shank button, the thread of the topstitching, a selvedge line at the turned cuff. Herofab frames one of them from a product photo or a delivered image, briefed to keep it as the source shows it.

## What denim shows at close range.

1. ### Rivets, shank button and fly

Closure or hardware is the entry for the metal on a pair of jeans: the rivets at the pocket corners, the shank button at the waistband, the fly buttons or the zip behind it. Both often carry embossed lettering round the rim, small text to read at full size. Count the rivets on the coin pocket and the front pockets against the pair.
2. ### Topstitching, bar tacks and pockets

The stitching entry shows the twin rows along the inseam and the yoke, the bar tacks on the belt loops, the chain stitch at the hem and the arcs sewn on the back pockets. Thread on denim is usually tobacco, gold or tonal. See that the arcs keep their shape and that the rows stay double where the jeans have them double.
3. ### Fades, whiskers and selvedge

The wash is part of the product. Whiskers at the hips, honeycombs behind the knee, a faded thigh or a raw dark surface are framed with fabric texture, as is the diagonal of the twill. A selvedge line shows only on a cuff turned up in the source. The back patch is small lettering, to be read word by word before the image is used.

## Photographing jeans for a denim detail.

- Lay the jeans flat with the waistband buttoned and the fly closed, and smooth the pocket area so the rivets and the coin pocket lie in plain view.
- Turn one cuff up before the photo if the selvedge or the chain-stitched hem is to be shown, and fold it evenly so the line runs straight.
- Use soft daylight from one side for fades and twill, and photograph the back separately when the patch or the pocket stitching is the subject.

## Detail shots for jeans, answered.

**Which detail option shows the wash and the fading?**

Fabric texture. It frames the surface of the denim, where the wash lives: the contrast between faded and dark areas, the whiskers, the slub of the yarn and the twill line. Stitching and closure or hardware lead the close-up to seams and metal instead. Fades read more clearly from a source lit softly from the side than from one taken with flash.

**Does a close-up keep the lettering on rivets and buttons?**

The hardware is briefed to stay as in the source, lettering included. Embossed letters on a rivet or a shank button are tiny and are the first thing to check: compare them with the jeans letter by letter. If they cannot be read in the source photo, take a nearer one, since the close-up cannot recover what the photo does not hold.

**How do I show the selvedge line on a pair of jeans?**

Turn the cuff up before taking the source photo, so the outseam shows its finished edge and coloured thread, then choose hem as the detail. A cuff left down keeps the selvedge inside the leg and out of the image, and the close-up has nothing to draw it from. A delivered on-model image with turned cuffs can serve as the source as well.

**How much does it cost?**

3 credits per image, plus one credit for 4K. The cost is shown before you generate, and if a job fails the credits are returned. The 20 free credits at sign-up cover 6 images with this tool.
