# A T-shirt range in colour, from a single tee.

A T-shirt is typically offered in a long row of colours and photographed in one or two of them. From one product shot or on-model image, Herofab delivers the same image with the tee in another colour, chosen from a palette of shades or matched to a colour reference photo.

## Three decisions behind a T-shirt colour range.

1. ### The chest print: kept or recoloured

By default the print keeps its own colours while the jersey around it changes, which fits a logo printed in one ink across the range. A print whose ink changes with each colourway, white on navy and black on sand, is set to be recoloured. Either way, read the small lettering in the print and compare it with the source image.
2. ### Rib collar, stitching and labels

On most tees the neck rib and the stitching at hem and sleeve are in the body colour and change with it. A ringer tee has a contrast collar and sleeve bands, and some styles use contrast thread or a woven hem tag. Check these against the real garment of each colour: a contrast rib should stay contrast, and a matching one should match.
3. ### Heather and marl fabrics

Grey marl and heathered jerseys are mixtures of light and dark fibres, not flat colours. A variant follows the image it starts from, so a solid tee gives a solid result and a fleck in the source is likely to remain. Start from a photo of the fabric type the colourway is really made of, then compare the result with that garment.

## The T-shirt image to recolour.

- Use a product shot or an on-model image in which the whole tee is visible and the chest print lies flat, without a crease running through it.
- Start from a colour in which the neck rib, the shoulder seams and the hem stitching can be told apart from the body; what the source does not show, no variant will show.
- For a brand colour or a seasonal shade, photograph a real tee or fabric swatch of that colour in even daylight and upload it as the colour reference.

## Colour variants for T-shirts, answered.

**Can a white T-shirt photo become a black one, or the reverse?**

Black and off-white are both shades of the palette, so either can be chosen. These are the largest changes a variant can make: a dark tee hides folds that a light one shows, and a light tee carries shading that a dark one absorbs. Compare such a variant closely with a real garment of that colour, or use a mid-tone tee as the source.

**What happens to a multi-colour graphic when the tee changes colour?**

With the default setting the graphic keeps its own colours and only the fabric changes. Look at the edges of the graphic, where ink meets jersey, and at any area of the design that used the original fabric colour as one of its colours. That area needs a decision between keeping the print and recolouring it.

**Will the model's jeans or jacket change colour along with the tee?**

Not when the colour is applied to the main product only, the setting for a listing of the tee itself: the model, the trousers and the background are meant to stay as in the source. The whole-outfit option exists for cases where everything worn should take the new colour. Check the line where the hem of the tee meets the waistband.

**How much does it cost?**

3 credits per image, plus one credit for 4K. The cost is shown before you generate, and if a job fails the credits are returned. The 20 free credits at sign-up cover 6 images with this tool.
