# Sneaker colourways, part by part.

A sneaker is rarely one colour: the upper, the sole, the laces and the logo each have their own, and a colourway is a combination of them. Herofab takes one product shot or on-model image and delivers the same image with the shoe in another colour, from a palette of shades or a colour reference photo.

## Where a sneaker variant needs a second look.

1. ### The sole

Many colourways share one white or gum sole while the upper changes. The main-product setting recolours the shoe as one product, so the midsole and the outsole are the first thing to compare with the real pair. A sole that should have stayed white and has taken the new shade makes the variant a different shoe.
2. ### Laces, eyelets and lining

Laces may match the upper, stay white or come in a contrast colour, and the eyelets, the tongue label, the heel tab and the lining each follow their own rule within a range. Go through them one by one on the result. They are small in the frame, and each is a difference a buyer can see on opening the box.
3. ### Logos and contrast panels

A side stripe, a heel logo or an overlay panel in a second colour is what identifies a sneaker, and it is hard to describe with a single shade. When a colourway changes the upper and leaves the panel, or changes both, a colour reference photo of the real pair in that colourway gives a clearer instruction than a palette shade.

## The sneaker photo to start from.

- Photograph the shoe side-on on a plain surface, the whole sole and the heel inside the frame, with the laces tied and lying flat.
- Choose as the source a colourway whose upper and sole differ clearly in tone, so the line between the two is plain to see in the image.
- For a brand shade, photograph the real material or a finished pair of that colour in daylight, without flash glare, to serve as the colour reference.

## Colour variants for sneakers, answered.

**Will a white sole stay white when the upper is recoloured?**

It is the part to verify on every variant. The colour is applied to the main product, and the shoe as a whole is that product, so a white midsole or a gum outsole may be drawn into the new shade. Compare the sole with the real pair, and where it has changed, use a reference photo of the actual colourway as the instruction.

**Can a brand's own shade be matched on a sneaker?**

A photo of the colour can be uploaded as a reference in place of a palette shade. Photograph the real suede, mesh or leather of that shade in daylight. Screens and materials differ, and mesh, suede and coated leather take one dye differently, so place the variant next to the real shoe before it is published.

**Can sneakers be recoloured in an image where a model wears them?**

Yes. The source may be a product shot or an on-model image. With the main product only selected, the trousers, the socks and the ground are meant to stay as they are while the shoes change. Look at the trouser hem where it touches the shoe and at the socks, the two places where a new colour could spill over.

**How much does it cost?**

3 credits per image, plus one credit for 4K. The cost is shown before you generate, and if a job fails the credits are returned. The 20 free credits at sign-up cover 6 images with this tool.
