- **Upload:** Only one master version of each image is uploaded; PrestaShop generates every smaller size from it, so it must be big enough to be resized into all image sizes
- **Size:** The theme declares the image sizes; the developer documentation's sample theme uses 800 × 800 pixels for the large product image and 250 × 250 pixels for the home listing image
- **Aspect ratio:** The upload should have the same width-to-height ratio as the configured image sizes, otherwise whitespace can appear on the resized image
- **Formats:** Generated images are saved as JPEG or PNG, with JPEG the recommended choice; version 8.1 added conversion to WebP and AVIF, and PrestaShop 9 lists support for both formats
- **Compression:** JPEG compression should not be set below 80, or at worst 75; PNG compression should not be set over 6, or at worst 7
- **File size:** The default maximum size of an image file follows the server's PHP settings and can be lowered on the Images preference page
- **Cover image:** The first uploaded image is the default cover image and appears on the product page; any other image can be set as the cover
- **Alt text:** Each image's caption is used as its alt attribute and should be translated for every language of the shop
- **Optimisation:** The Help Center advises not using images larger than the size needed, giving 1,024 × 1,024 pixels as its example, and preferring WebP, then JPG and PNG

## What PrestaShop asks for, covered.

PrestaShop takes one master upload of each image and generates every smaller size from it, so the upload has to be big enough for all of the theme's image sizes. Square 2K output is 2,048 × 2,048 pixels, above the 800 × 800 pixels of the sample theme in PrestaShop's developer documentation. An upload whose ratio differs from the configured image sizes can get whitespace on the resized image, so a collection ordered in the ratio the theme uses avoids it. Herofab images can be downloaded as PNG or JPG.

### One master image

PrestaShop generates every image size from a single upload; square 2K output is 2,048 × 2,048 pixels.

### Match the theme's ratio

An upload whose ratio differs from the configured image sizes can get whitespace on the resized image.

### PNG or JPG

Herofab images can be downloaded as PNG or JPG.
