# Watermark

A logo, text or pattern placed over an image to mark ownership. Major marketplaces do not allow it on product images.

Watermarks protect photos from copying, but on a marketplace they cover the product and read as advertising. The rules usually cover all added graphics: logos, text, borders and badges.

Invisible marking, in metadata or content credentials, records ownership and AI use without changing the image.
